Despite the impressive quality of season 3
so far, Prey is the first episode that can be described as wholly disappointing.
Andrea learns from Milton of the governors sadistic plans for Rick’s group and
Michonne, leaving Woodbury in an attempt to warn everybody at the prison. The majority
of the episode follows everyone's most hated character as she tries to not be
the worst thing about the show. Beyond a fantastic scene where she’s stalked by
the governor through an abandoned, walker infested warehouse, Prey is
incredibly dull. Some of The Governors plans are sabotaged by a hidden person
(it’s Milton by the way) whose identity simply doesn’t need to be kept from the
viewer. Tyrese questions Woodbury and The Governors plans, but his realisation
that the town isn’t a sanctuary feels like some rushed, late in the day character
development. Prey is the only episode of season 3 that moves sideways for a
whole 45 minutes and beyond the closing shot, makes for forgettable and unnecessary
viewing.
