Short review: Four Lions

Director: Christopher Morris
(2010)

Despite what seems like terrible idea, director Chris Morris’ choice to make a comedy about Muslim suicide bombers in the UK is definitely a good one. From a hilarious opening to a poignant finish, Four Lions is a very, very funny film. Following 5 suicide bombers and their destructive plans through boot camp and bomb making, we get an insightful study on just how idiotic people can be. From eating SIM cards to prevent them being tracked to pretending to be a woman to buy bomb ingredients, four lions is brimming with hilarious lines of comedic gold. It’s just a shame that said humour is poorly paced; often stretches as long as 10 minutes pass without any jokes whatsoever. It’s at these points where four lions loses focus and the film becomes significantly less enjoyable. Still, Morris finishes with an emotional, bombastically funny finish.
