After a terrific season premiere, The Walking Dead returns with an almost equally as impressive episode 2, Sick. After Hershel's injury, the gang encounter other survivors in the prison. The 2 groups make a deal, Rick, Daryl and TDogg will help the inmates clear out a cell block and in exchange will get half of their food.

Once again the combat is focused on fighting with up close through darkened corridors, and there's certainly a thrill from seeing a piece of rebar penetrate a zombies eye socket. Behind the gruesome violence, character development has come along nicely, even if it is minor. Carol now has some semblance of importance; we learn that Hershel has taught her some basic medical skills since Season 2. Carl decides to wander off for the umpteenth time, only this time he returns with medical supplies and a bad attitude. It’s certainly interesting that Carl is a more capable character now, leaving Lori as the most hated character. While she’s not as irritating, there's a lot of work that needs to be done with her character.

On the whole Sick is another good episode. Pacing is fast, characters have a little more depth and Tdogg has the most dialogue I think he’s ever had. After the subtle hint of Michonne in E1, fans may be disappointed here, but episode 3 looks to rectify that quite soon.
