Following last week’s incredible episode,
there was no way for this week’s episode to live up to the high standards that season
3 has set for itself. Rick and the group are in shock with 2 members dead and Carol
missing, things are looking grim as the Ricks newborn daughter is in need of sustenance.
Without Lori to provide, it’s up to Daryl and Maggie leave the prison to gather
supplies while Rick disappears into the prison, clearly traumatised by Lori’s
demise.
The scenes with the group do very little to
develop the plot, with the interesting part of this episode being set in
Woodbury. Michonne is still untrusting of The Governor, a contrast to Andrea
who has the intentions of staying in the safety of the town. Morrissey's
antagonist is starting to show his depth; he’s much more than a ruler,
something that is shown both implicitly (talk of an ‘experiment’) and
explicitly (keeping his zombie daughter alive and captive in his home).
Say the Word is almost a refresher episode
for season 3. Coming after the mesmerizing episode 4, the tension is reset in
order to build up to another mid season climax. If it’s ominous ending is
anything to go by, we could be in for another rollercoaster ride.
